ASHLAND — Select Board approves cable license renewal hearing and Community Center overhaul. The five-member board chaired by Joseph Magnani unanimously opened a public hearing on Verizon New England, Inc.'s television license renewal, due to expire July 11, 2028, after multiple community members praised WACA-TV's role broadcasting town meetings and local programming. In a separate presentation, Assistant Town Manager Katherine Bird and Assistant Town Manager Beth Reynolds detailed a $490,000 Community Center reconfiguration project funded 87 percent through grants, donations, state earmarks, and 2023 flood insurance recovery, including replacement of a fifteen-year-old buckling Great Room floor and repair of a long-closed outdoor patio.
The board unanimously approved a letter to Hopkinton's Building Commissioner and the landowner and prospective buyer of the 1.8-acre parcel at 0 Cross Street, clarifying that the property is subject to a perpetual open space restriction recorded under a 2020 special permit and that building permits cannot legally be issued.
