Planning Board continues three public hearings, discusses zoning amendment for in-law apartments.

Planning Board · Meeting of January 22, 2026

Ashland Planning Board continued three public hearings and advanced a proposed zoning amendment allowing in-law apartments as an accessory use. Chair Tricia Kendall and four board members voted unanimously to continue the Ballard Road/Highland Road ANR and the Memorial Drive YMCA hearing to February 12, and moved the 240-260 Pleasant Street Site Plan Review to the same date. On the in-law apartments bylaw amendment, the Board discussed resolving conflicts between the town's existing Accessory Dwelling Unit provisions and state building code requirements that treat in-law apartments differently, with no two means of egress or fire separation mandates.

Director of Planning Jasmin Farinacci noted the March 23 warrant article deadline. The Board voted unanimously to continue the amendment to February 12 for further discussion with Town Counsel and the Building Commissioner.
