The Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education recognized Ashland Public Schools this week for its work with multilingual learners, the district announced Oct. 27.

The state awarded the district the Seal of Biliteracy Star Award and a Multilingual Learner Equity Recognition based on Ashland High School's Massachusetts State Seal of Biliteracy outcomes for the 2024-2025 school year.

The Star Award recognizes that 10% of the Ashland High School 2025 graduating class earned the Seal of Biliteracy and that the school met equity benchmarks for English learners, former English learners and students who have ever been English learners. The Equity Commendation recognizes the school's work providing the Seal to graduates who are or were once English learners.

Ashland High School has awarded the Seal of Biliteracy since 2019. The district credited the recognition to its World Language, English and English Learner teachers for preparing students for the assessments required to earn the Seal.

Christy Arnold, director of English Learners for Ashland Public Schools, accepted the awards on behalf of the district on Monday, Oct. 26, 2026.
