Ashland Planning Board approves karate studio waiver, launches master plan survey

Ashland Planning Board unanimously approved a site plan waiver for a new karate studio and advanced a 10-question master plan public survey at its April 16 meeting. The board voted twice on the True North Karate Studio application, first accepting the site plan waiver as complete and then approving the studio's right to operate at 50 Winter Street, owned by Jennifer Bain, contingent on all required permits and fire and building code compliance. A board member identified as John Harlow was appointed to represent the Planning Board on the town's newly forming Capital Improvement Program committee.

The master plan survey, covering topics from preferred growth types to conservation land priorities, will be distributed via the town website, local Facebook pages, and printed QR-code flyers, with responses due by end of May or the first June meeting; the board plans a formal vote on a draft vision statement at its June 5 meeting, with departmental input expected by September and public hearings in November and December.
