ASHLAND — The Ashland Zoning Board of Appeals continued a hearing on gates and traffic calming for two private condo roads after fire and police concerns went unanswered. The Ashland Open Space Trust is seeking to modify a 1985 special permit covering Captain Eames Circle and Algonquin Trail, roads serving 576 households, to add 11 raised medians and automatic gates meant to curb cut-through traffic. Traffic engineer Andrew Arsenal of MDM Transportation Consultants said the roads see 60 to 90 cut-through vehicles per peak hour, about 15 to 20 percent of total volume.
Resident Sunday Wiley said she's "tired of yelling at cars, telling them to slow down because it is so dangerous," while others, including Roadway Traffic Study Committee chair Joseph Magnani, questioned a still-unlocated 1985 memorandum on the roads' public-access status. Board members Brian Forrestal, Stuart Siegel and Kiran Guram voted to continue the hearing to September 8; Chairman John Trefven recused himself because he lives on Captain Eames Circle.
