School Committee · Meeting of June 10, 2026

Ashland School Committee voted to create two new staff positions, cut six middle school sports and restore a special education job. Superintendent Jim said the district is taking over field rentals from the town DPW July 1 and will fund two new roles, an assistant athletics director and assistant facilities director, worth up to $85,000 each, through a $200,000 town enterprise transfer and revolving accounts rather than the operating budget, projecting a first-year shortfall near $53,000. "This is outside of anything that was voted at town meeting," Jim said.

The committee voted 4-0 twice to approve the job descriptions, then voted unanimously to move six middle school sports, including soccer, basketball, baseball and softball, into town youth leagues starting this fall. Members also voted unanimously to reinstate a special education coordinator position at Ashland Middle School, cut earlier this budget cycle, funding it through staffing savings and grant money instead of new appropriations.
