Ashland School Committee Elects Terry Chair, Accepts $50,000 Math Education Gift

ASHLAND — June 3, 2026 — Ashland School Committee reorganizes and accepts a $50,000 math education gift. The committee elected Mark Terry as chair for the 2026-27 year at its June 3 meeting, with Paul Kendall named vice chair and newly sworn-in member Chantal appointed clerk. The board unanimously accepted a $50,000 gift from the Cooper family to establish the Cooper Family Ashland Math Educators Fund, which will support math supplies, programming, extracurricular clubs, and a scholarship for students pursuing math education careers; members flagged a need for a formal donation acceptance policy going forward. Superintendent James Adams reported 54 applicants for the open assistant superintendent position and 24 for the director of student services role, with initial interviews scheduled June 16-17, and noted a recent Proposition 2.5 override passed with roughly 60 percent support. The committee authorized payables of $766,933.32 and payroll of $1,505,849.88 for the period ending June 3.
