Sustainability Committee approves prior minutes, welcomes resident input on priorities

Sustainability Committee · Meeting of February 19, 2026

Ashland's Sustainability Committee approved prior minutes and advanced a "Skip the Stuff" bylaw targeting single-use items from local takeout orders. Chair Ashwin Ratanchandani said he will submit bylaw language to the Select Board for the upcoming Town Meeting, drawing from other communities' models and incorporating feedback from business owners including Lauren Crowley of Sub Zero ice cream. Committee member Chuck Lidz resigned, as did Zack Fey from the affiliated Energize Ashland group.

Sustainability Project Manager Sam Riley reported conducting municipal building audits and is creating a checklist system to ensure sustainability review before equipment replacement. Community solar projects on the Church parking lot and MBTA lot remain pending external approvals.
