Sustainability Committee advances bylaw to reduce restaurant waste, loses member

Ashland Sustainability Committee submits Notice of Intent for takeout waste bylaw. Chair Ashwin Ratanchandani reported restaurants support reducing single-use cutlery and condiments in takeout orders, and member Cara Camerato-Hulme identified funding for restaurant education materials. Sustainability Project Manager Sam Riley raised Health Department enforcement concerns but the committee voted unanimously to proceed without proposed fines and form a working group to refine language.
The committee also lost Vice Chair Chuck Lidz, who resigned at the meeting's start, and deferred action on Community Solar pending discussion with Lidz.
