Historical Commission delays burial survey, targets fall for historic district

ASHLAND — The Ashland Historical Commission postponed its Village Burial Ground ground-penetrating radar survey to May and committed to presenting the Local Historic District initiative at the fall town meeting. Chair Jim Neilsen outlined a promotion strategy including outreach to business owners, public hearings, and social media engagement, with Clerk Helen Nickole emphasizing the district's economic value as a development driver. Co-Chair Joanna Sorensen reported that the Federated Church applied to the Community Preservation Committee for roof replacement funds but must resubmit a better proposal; the church is exploring placing ownership in a trust or non-profit structure.
The commission also noted two ceremonial stone sites documented on Ashland's portion of the Liberty Mutual project.
