ASHLAND — Ashland remains under a Stage 1 water restriction, with town officials continuing to ask residents to limit water use as the town's clerk's office ramps up preparations for the September 1 state primary.

TOWN HALL

The town's Stage 1 water restriction stays in effect, and officials are asking residents to cut back on outdoor and non-essential water use, according to a notice posted on the town's website. Separately, the town flagged two administrative changes for residents doing business with Town Hall: anyone trying to confirm whether a property has open permits must now file a formal public records request, and the town has rolled out a new online licensing and permitting portal called OpenGov.

The Town Clerk's office is also gearing up for the September 1 state primary, with advanced removal and depositing of early voted ballots scheduled for several days this week, Tuesday, August 25 through Friday, August 28.

COMMUNITY & ARTS

The Ashland Public Library has two lecture-style programs on the calendar this week. A virtual talk on "Celebrating 250: Revolutionary Sites & Remnants of Colonial New York City" runs Tuesday, August 25, and a virtual art lecture, "Through Wind and Storm: The Art of Wild Weather," is set for Thursday, August 27, as part of the library's Art on Thursday series.

COMING UP

Town boards are busy this week: the Conservation Commission meets by Zoom on Monday, August 24; the Zoning Board of Appeals holds a hybrid meeting Tuesday, August 25; the Select Board meets in hybrid format Wednesday, August 26; and the Planning Board meets in hybrid format Thursday, August 27. Advanced removal and depositing of early voted ballots for the September 1 state primary continues through Friday, August 28.

At the library, the Monday Knit and Crochet Club meets in person Monday, August 24, alongside a virtual talk on gun control, the Second Amendment and school shootings. A virtual job-search program on using AI in a job search runs Wednesday, August 26, along with a Sensory Safari program for children ages 1 to 3 with a caregiver.
