Ashland Library reports 70 to 90 percent surge in Saturday traffic as youth programs boom. The library recorded 386 kindergarten-through-sixth-grade summer reading registrations, 102 teen registrations, and over 200 Sprouts early literacy registrations in June alone, part of a fiscal year total exceeding 20,000 children's program attendees. Director Meena Jain reported the Children's Department offered 38 programs in June serving 3,156 attendees.
Board members acknowledged that current permanent staffing levels are insufficient to sustainably meet growing demand, and agreed that additional permanent positions are needed despite bringing in substitute staff for summer operations.
